Doctors Alan Duben and Lindsay Erickson at the Duben Holistic Chiropractic Center provide insight into their unique methods of supporting patients’ emotional health.
“We share with our patients that they should live an active life rather than a reactive life,” explains Dr. Duben.
Q. What does it mean to “live an active life?”
Dr. D: Too often we notice that patients who are stressed, unhappy and ultimately unhealthy are reacting to their life rather than acting in a healthy manner. These reactions are caused by an emotional trigger that affects some part of the body.
Dr. E: Many of our patients consult with us about headaches, indigestion, emotional issues, back pain and hormone imbalance symptoms. They report that after receiving care in our office they get better and stay better.
Q. Is there a name for the type of treatments you provide?
Dr. D: We use a technique called NET, Neuro Emotional Technique. NET helps our patients erase stressful reactive patterns in their mind and body. NET is a tool that can help improve many behavioral and physical conditions.
Dr. E: The memory of the body can lock stresses into muscles and body chemistry and make us sick. It is a scientific fact that psychosomatic disease exists. In our office we help erase these negative connections.
Q. Who should try NET?
Dr. D: We check all our patients with NET. That’s because anyone who has been suffering recurring symptoms, with no obvious explanation, may be experiencing a condition related to an emotional component, and NET could help.
Dr. E: One particular patient was in a car accident that resulted in neck pain and tension headaches. We cared for her and she returned to her pre-accident condition. But, and here is the interesting part, whenever she drove through the same intersection where her car accident occurred, the symptoms returned! That’s because to her mind and body, that intersection was the cause of her condition rather than the car hitting her. That may sound silly, but our nervous system’s memory is there to protect us from doing things that are harmful. With a series of NET visits, we cleared up this reactive mind-body connection and now that intersection does not affect her at all.
