Striking It Big

More than 150 kids from Oxnard, Fillmore and Santa Paula, along with fundraising volunteers, are in for a day of bowling fun and science education, sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County. The Bowl For Kids’ Sake event transports program youth, aka “Littles” to Harley’s Camarillo Bowl for breakfast, a youth motivational speaker presentation and bowling, complete with prizes and giveaways.

After their bowling session, the Littles head to California State University, Channel Islands for a S.T.E.A.M. program featuring a science fair, panel presentation by undergraduate students about being prepared to attend college and a tour of the university campus.

“This will be a first for many of the children in our programs,” says event organizer Rene Solem. “From bowling to stepping foot onto a university campus, in many cases, these children will be the first in their family to graduate from high school and pursue a college degree! We are proud of them and are so excited to introduce Bowl For Kids’ Sake as a tool to support their educational enrichment.”
