Celebrating Independence

July 4th offers an abundance of area activities to choose from, with full days of events scheduled in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village and surrounding areas.

Thousand Oaks

Activities include a pancake breakfast ($3/person at Borchard Community Center, 8-11 a.m.), Senior Home Run Derby ($5 at Borchard Community Center, 9-11 a.m.) Family Open Swim (free at the Community Pool at CLU, Thousand Oaks High School and Newbury Park High School pools, 12-4 p.m.) Concert in the Park (free at Conejo Community Park, featuring the Conejo Pops Orchestra, 5-7 p.m.) and fireworks at 9 p.m. CRPD.org

Westlake Village

Festivities begin with a Boy Scouts pancake breakfast ($5/person; $20/family, Westlake Village Medical Center Property at 4415 Lakeview Canyon, 8 a.m.), a parade (Lakeview Canyon Road and Agoura Road to Berniece Bennett Park, 9:45 a.m.), a U.S. flag retirement ceremony, music, inflatables, old-fashioned games and free popsicles and water. Paramount Ranch

Learn the secrets that turn a dusty set into a realistic town, Sunday, July 30, 10-11 a.m. at Paramount Ranch in Agoura. This easy-paced walk behind the scenes reveals the illusions and history of Paramount Ranch. Rain or predicted rain cancels. SaMoFund.org

Tee Up for Kids

The Rotary Club of Camarillo’s 25th Annual Care for Kids Golf Classic takes place Monday, July 17 at Spanish Hills Golf and Country Club in Camarillo. The event raises money for Casa Pacifica’s crisis care and residential treatment facilities for abused, neglected and at-risk children in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, as well as other children’s charities supported by Camarillo Rotary foundations. Save the Date

The Westlake Women’s Club “Summer Wine Down” takes place August 27, from 4:30-8 p.m. at the Westlake Yacht Club. Wine tasting from area wineries, including Ascension Cellars, De Liese Cellars, Roblar Winery, Summerland Winery and Sunland Vintage Winery, paired with local food from BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Merlin’s Kitchen and others, along with live music make for a relaxing summer afternoon.
