The advantages of a La Reina education are clear. As a girls’ school, La Reina‘s educational environment provides girls a chance to thrive in the classroom and beyond. An average class size of 20 guarantees individual attention, ensuring students develop their natural gifts and excel academically. Our teachers are experts in girls’ education, and the results speak for themselves.
La Reina students outperform their public school peers on several key metrics, including earning SAT scores that are 195 points above the national average and having a 100% acceptance rate to 4-year colleges and universities. Additionally, La Reina graduates are more than twice as likely as their peers to choose majors in STEM fields in college or university.
At La Reina High School and Middle School, we educate the whole girl—mind, body and spirit. By offering girls a challenging curriculum, diverse co-curricular activities, competitive athletics, hands-on learning opportunities, and grade-level retreats that develop important social connections, La Reina is leading the way.
Experts in Educating Girls
The National Coalition of Girls’ Schools research demonstrates that girls attending single-gender schools gain clear advantages. A recent study, Steeped in Learning: The Student Experience at All-Girls Schools, surveyed nearly 13,000 girls attending all-girls schools, coed independent schools, and coed public schools. The study found that students at all-girls schools engage more actively in the learning process, with 95% of respondents reporting active participation in class discussions. Girls in single-gender classrooms report feeling more comfortable being themselves and expressing their ideas, and an atmosphere of respect helps girls feel confident to share their views. Nearly 87% of girls at single- gender schools feel their opinions are respected, which is significantly higher than girls at independent and public coed schools. It’s no wonder that girls’ school graduates report having higher aspirations and greater motivation than their coed peers.
Friends for Life
Our alumnae say the friendships they made at school remain with them through college and beyond. Being a La Reina girl means being part of a lifelong sisterhood of kindness, support and solidarity.
Communications: At La Reina, we recognize that communication skills are vital in any profession. To help students hone their public speaking, reasoning and extemporaneous speaking skills, La Reina offers award-winning Speech, Debate and Mock Trial Programs. With fewer than 20% of public schools offering Speech and Debate, La Reina students have a clear advantage in these important areas.
La Reina’s Mock Trial Team is one of the most successful teams in California, having won the Ventura County Championship 21 times, the State Championship four times and the World Championship twice. Similarly, the Speech and Debate Team is ranked in the top 10% nationally. Last year, two students received the National Speech and Debate Association Academic All American Award, presented to less than one percent of competitors.
STEM: La Reina science and math teachers believe in educating girls for success in a 21st century world. Emphasizing hands-on learning and problem solving, STEM teachers ensure that all girls learn the skills required to succeed in STEM fields.
La Reina is proud to announce Creative Coding, a new UC-approved class that introduces girls to java script through social and collaborative projects in video, animation and interactive apps. Students wishing to experience coding who aren’t ready for a class can join the weekly Girls Who Code Club to explore programming concepts.
La Reina’s winning VEX Robotics team, the RoboRegents, won awards at state three years in a row and took home the Judges’ Award at last year’s world competition.
Fine Arts: Whereas most schools have choral arts programs, La Reina also offers a two-part UC-approved course in solo singing and vocal literature. This incredible program has sent students to some of the nation’s top conservatories. Similarly, the visual arts program enables students to develop drawing, painting, photography, ceramics and graphic arts skills. La Reina’s fine arts AP pass rate is 100% for both 2D and 3D tests, with most students achieving the highest possible score.
