If you have ever wanted to visit beautiful Mediterranean cities and explore ancient treasures like the beautiful city of Petra in Jordan, you can enjoy a slice of this exotic part of the world right here in the Conejo Valley. Family owned Petra Mediterranean Cuisine takes pride in its Jordanian heritage, which comes through in every tasty morsel created for its guests.
Nearly 40 years ago, Petra Mediterranean Cuisine Owner, Ahed “John” Rabadi, settled in the United States from his homeland of Jordan half a world away, bringing with them his family’s traditional, Mediterranean food recipes. The desire to share generations of culinary expertise led him to create Petra Mediterranean Cuisine in Thousand Oaks, where guests will discover an Old World oasis featuring a wide array of authentic, generations-old recipes and spices to tantalize every palate. From delectable, family-style appetizers to unique main dishes, Petra is a destination not to be missed and a place to be enjoyed time and again.
Using only the freshest ingredients and locally grown produce, Petra’s chefs offer a delicious menu of authentic salads, tasty appetizers, soup and main dishes featuring uniquely prepared seafood, chicken and meats. Their daily specials featuring special ethnic dishes are also certain to please.
“In the Jordanian culture, food is very important and a way to express hospitality and generosity, often as a family affair,” says Ahed. “When you visit, you become family.”
On the Menu
Petra’s lunch and dinner menus include traditional Jordanian dishes, such as Mansaf (lamb shank cooked in a sauce of fermented dried yogurt and served with rice), Vegetarian Maqluba (rice, potato, tomato, cauliflower, eggplant and spices), Chicken Shawarma (served with rice, salad and hummus), Veggie Plates with grape leaves and falafel, and so much more. There is nothing else like this culinary experience in the Conejo Valley.
Visit them for lunch or dinner and expand your tastes with their delicious cuisine.
“As Jordanians say, ‘You are expected to bring nothing and eat everything!’” says Ahed.
In addition to exceptional cuisine, Petra features a magnificent bar stocked with hundreds of fine wines, beers and specialty drinks, such as the Mediterranean Martini, made with Belvedere Vodka macerated with ginger, fresh cucumber and herbs; the Star of Babylon, with Belvedere Vodka, ginger beer, rose water and lime; and the Galilee, with Nolet's Gin, mint, cucumber and rose water, to name just a few.
Try some of their specialties from 4 to 7 p.m. during daily Happy Hour and join them on Friday and Saturday evenings for an exciting belly dancing performance. The large space can accommodate about 400 guests, making it the perfect setting for all types of events, including parties and wedding meals.
Guests are sure to enjoy Petra’s recent additions of Jazz and Comedy Nights. Comedy Night takes place the second and fourth Tuesdays monthly, from 8 to 10 p.m., and Jazz Night features the finest local jazz musicians from 8 to 11 p.m. every Friday night.
