“Matilda” On Stage at the Civic Arts Plaza
A super-charged message of empowerment courses through “Matilda The Musical”: “If it’s not right, you have to put it right.” Based on the novel by Roald Dahl, this Tony-winning musical is about an extraordinary girl who dares to change her destiny.
“It’s the perfect show for 5-Star Theatricals, because we’re committed to sharing theater’s life-changing power—both with audiences and students out there in the community and in our Performing Arts Academy,” says Artistic Director Patrick Cassidy. “In fact, one of the young actresses who’s playing Matilda comes from our academy. As Matilda might say, ‘Even if you’re little, you can do a lot.’”
Playing at the Civic Arts Plaza March 22-31, “Matilda” features inspiring and fun songs and lyrics written by Tim Minchin. This extraordinary tale of Matilda’s journey is sure to delight audiences of all ages. 5StarTheatricals.com
Family Sing with New West Symphony
Join the New West Symphony for a fun and interactive concert for kids and the whole family! In partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, New West Symphony performs The Orchestra Swings.
“Swing” is many things. It’s a distinctive rhythmic feel; a musical era dominated by big band jazz; a style of dance that grew alongside the music; and that elusive but unmistakable feeling that results when musicians are deeply tuned into each other and playing in sync, or “in the pocket.” Though swing is characteristically associated with jazz, an orchestra can also swing. Download the student guide and practice at home before the concert! Then, get ready to show off what you learned and play along with the orchestra! Tickets: $24/adult; $14/child. NewWestSymphony.org
